In partnership with Virgin Australia, Captain Cook Cruises helped distribute over 1000 bras in the Mamanucas this month as part of The Great Fiji Bra Drive.
On a recent trip to Fiji, Virgin Australia flight attendant Cassy Appleton learnt of the plight faced by women in Fiji – that well-fitting bras are difficult and expensive for local women to access and decided to do something about it. Joining forces with Maraia Vavaitamana, Cassy set about organising The Great Fiji Bra Drive, a project targeting women in rural areas with limited or no access to the purchase of bras.
Over the course of a few months, Cassy collected over 1000 bras from women all across New Zealand. Her employers, Virgin Australia shipped the bras to Fiji in September and were kind enough to cover all costs.
Ms Vavaitamana approached Captain Cook Cruises Fiji (CCC Fiji) for assistance with regards to logistics to distribute bras in the Mamanuca Islands, who were more than happy to assist with accommodation onboard MV Reef Endeavour and donations of company memorabilia.
The villages of Yanuya and Yalobi were visited where women gifted with five bras each.
CCC Fiji General Manager Tony Acland was delighted the cruise company was able to assist in some way.
“Captain Cook Cruises Fiji believes that women’s issues are important issues. Given that it is Pinktober, we wanted to do our bit for the women of Fiji, especially those in the Mamanuca’s who are always so welcoming to our passengers”.
