Captain Cook Cruises has joined with Rotary Club of Sydney Cove and Rotary Club of Nadi to establish a Rotary Australia Overseas Aid, tax deductible fund to raise money to support the families of unemployed hospitality workers in Fiji.

Since March 2020 there has been no international tourism to Fiji. While Captain Cook Cruises have continued to employ most of their workers at reduced hours with their limited cruise schedule for locals, many thousands of hospitality workers have been without work and income during the border closure period.  They require groceries to feed their families.

Following the success of fund-raising efforts by a group of Mamanuca operators late last year, Jackie Charlton, a member of the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove and Manager at Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, registered the project to enable tax deductibility for donations from Australians.  The Rotary Australia Overseas Aid fund provides such a vehicle with no fees. Rotary take 2% and the banks 1.5% for card processing otherwise, all proceeds will go directly to those in need.

The fund will provide Hospitality workers and contractors employed by resorts, cruises and tour operators in the Mamanuca & Yasawa islands grocery vouchers while their work continues to be reduced or suspended.

Rotary is an international organization engaging leaders in the community, through membership, to aid those in need, locally and more broadly, through hands on projects and fund-raising initiatives.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million volunteer neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

Their mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
Having had a decades long relationship with Rotary, Captain Cook Cruises is privileged to have been able to partner with them to promote this initiative and help hospitality workers in Fiji.
